The Christiansons enjoy a love of Nature and the materials she provides. Carl’s use of wood is focused on beauty and function. Sensitivity to the wood’s markings allow the finished pieces to take on the look of paintings. Kirsten’s use of handmade paper and natural materials maintains the rhythms of the natural world in both design and color which she communicates through her teachings and residencies. Carl and Kirsten often collaborate on projects bringing each other’s strengths and artistic ability to a harmonious blend. Kirsten and Carl’s work is proudly displayed by private owners and in public arenas around the country.
Art Work
Inspired by glacially carved landscapes surrounding her home in Algoma, Kirsten’s art is sculptural and dimensional, exploring handmade paper with natural materials collected near Lake Michigan. Pieces range from castings of natural forms in paper to paintings of water silhouetting flowers and plants.
Art Education
Kirsten offers classes at The Center for Handmade Paper in the Woodwalk Gallery, Egg Harbor and The Paper Discovery Center in Appleton and continues her Artist-in-Residency projects in schools and communities throughout Wisconsin.
Custom Furniture & Built-ins
With an innate sense of design, unique woodworking style and technique influenced by the individual character of domestic woods, Carl designs and builds original pieces for homes and boats capitalizing on joinery for both durability and aesthetics.
Classical Guitars
Carl’s passion for woodworking and love of music inspired him to work for friend Robert Ruck of Eugene, Oregon, hand crafting three guitars under Rob’s direction, each with an individually beautiful sound, style and feel.
